9/5/97 - A Latin Salve. Welcome to Ben's Exploratory Internet Superhighway Open Window and Diaristic Personal Page Realm on the World Wide Web! Hi there, I'm Ben Turner. A funny thing happened to me today. I've already told most of my friends (as soon as I got home, in fact) about it and you know now if you're a friend of mine or not!!! =) ) and now I'm going to tell the whole world, because if you don't know, that's one of the reasons we pioneers are using the Internet only in recent months to transmit our thoughts and feelings and cooking recipes to people across the globe! Okay, get this. I recommend you listen to an EXCELLENT album I found while you read this. It's the new one by Jars of Clay! John and Patty and Davey and Robert all suggested I listen to it, so how could I resist? I felt so left out, so I bopped over to the CD store after finishing my boring job no one wants to hear about in each diary entry I receive. OH WAIT, now I have to tell you about those people I listed above. They motivated me to copy their sites and put one of my own up and put my name on it. I had a near putrid page when I first started tinkering with HTML, but when I saw their pages, they inspired me to copy and steal from them. I thought what they were doing was pretty cool...and I felt so left out! So then I decided to write like them too, and write kilobytes and kilobytes about meaningless stories in an effort to sound interesting and interestED. Thank you, pals! =) I love ya. (except for Patty, 'cause I know you stole MY idea for resizable frames as removable covers! =) ) Oh yeah, the story. See? I tend to ramble! It's so nice to have a captive audience that will read whatever I have to say! I went to a Vietnamese restaurant tonight, because I felt like being (ooh) cultured. I ordered meatballs and noodles, and my friends and I had a wonderful, incredibly satisfying talk about each other while waiting for the food to arrive. When my dish arrived, I looked at the meatballs. They were grey! Now, this is interesting. Not because grey meat is unappetizing or because it tasted a bit off. No. Because it was grey. Now think about this for a moment (reload so my hit counter will go up once, please, while you're thinking). We all live in this world. We all run into things that are grey in this world. Don't you see? Grey is a beautiful shade, so equal, so perfect, so democratic! It's just like we are! Our shared experiences with the color grey bring us together to form a kinship. We SHARE that color. We love that color. I love these moments of understanding of the world. In fact, I was so taken by this dish I ordered that I took half a dozen pictures of it, which you can access by clicking on the hyperlink _here_ (get Netscape Navigator!). Als... Ugh, how do those people on the Web WRITE like this?
