11/2/97 - Flagrant Harakiri. Ooh, a wonderful weekend of relaxation which has been much needed. And now it's almost over... At least it is November now. Under 50 days now until I'm with my sweetie in her soft arms. One of my old hobbies was Usenet. Yeah. I spent a lot of time there every day. Sometimes close to an hour or two. I tended to frequent high volume newsgroups which had maybe 300 new posts every day. I kicked the habit once I started talking to Anna. She's much more worth my time. So now I only read Usenet as a casual observer. Hardly spend more than ten minutes reading posts a day. One person who has come into the HTML newsgroup and has attacked the way the regulars react to questions has really riled up the place, as everyone's trading insults and flames. You know...the usual Usenet shpiel. People start throwing around insults and it has NOTHING to do with HTML. Well, this guy has taken an aversion to me and has grouped me with the "purists", the people who he claims won't use any browser extensions and who use images off just to piss people off. I don't know why -- I got into a fun thread with him about how my site incorporates more of the "latest and greatest" features he loves so much better than he does with his site. In short, I'm a MUCH better designer than he is, AND I know a Hell of a lot more about HTML than he does (bt.com doesn't exclude any competent browsers, you know -- some of my contemporaries' sites do. ). And this guy had the nerve to visit my site, and as you know, if someone is NOT in good spirits about me before seeing my site, they're most definitely NOT going to think any more highly of me after seeing it. This man has latched onto the fact that I'm a teenager and that I am a college student. Now, why am I writing about this? Is he getting to me? Well, yes. :) This is too funny to pass up. I'll admit this guy keeps pulling shit out of his ass and I'm there to see what he'll come up with next. But he seems to think that people like me, who are young, ambitious, highly intelligent, and arrogant have no idea what the real world is like. In other words, just because I'm young, I'm stupid and I don't know any more than what I read in a class textbook. Oh my. The person who speaks such things is a very old man, around 50 years old, who goes about pushing the technologies that only the youths use. He professes to sit at his computer almost half his day and he has the gall to say *I* don't know what the real world is like? This man pushes commercialism and capitalism pretty heavily. You know, financial independence and heavy marketing to make money. But it's ironic, since marketing is mainly directed towards my age group, 15-30. I fit in this category and he's old news. Movies, music, television? Those are directed towards people like me, not fogeys like you. Just through web design, I have a fairly good feeling for how contracts work and how businesses operate and how clueless upper execs and even the lowliest of programmers/designers are. I mean, it really is scary how people get their jobs. My experience with business is not non-existent. And what's wrong with attending a university? The man in question mocks those who go to universities, as do many people. An isolated little world, they call it. Well, maybe ten to twenty years ago. Do you know how many kids have to work to earn their way these days? How many kids have to deal with forces outside school? This man is old school and anachronistic. He is past his prime and he has no clue about the real world. Hypocrite. And I sure as Hell can design a sweeter looking page than he can. I love flaming. It's so silly. ;) Don't you think? . . . c o m |-. ,-. ,-. |- . . ,-. ,-. ,-. ,-. | | |-' | | | | | | | | |-' | `-' `-' ' ' `' `-' ' ' ' `-' '
